Baby Craze- Madison Newborn Photographer

I love newborns, period, end of story. Since taking some much needed time off for the holidays, it had been a few weeks since I had a newborn baby in the studio and boy did I miss everything to do with a newborn baby. And mr derrick, reminded me of everythingI love about providing newborn portraiture in the Madison area. Baby eyelashes,those beautiful and perfect features including the newborn hair swirl, swoon; it sure satisfies the baby craze I am currently in. And those who know, we are a happy and well balanced family of 4 and even with the numerous requests from my 5 year old to bring home a new baby from the hospital, I will continue to satisfy my newborn with your babies during your newborn session.

And little mr derrick has some special love and protection from his grandpa who is a shaman. I learned about how a baby is protected and bestowed good health and how the shaman must protect the baby’s soul in the spirit world for he/she is a new member to the family. This is the first time I had photographed a baby with such a special gift visible on his wrists and ankles.

And I will leave you with one last image of mr derrick. The serenity of this image is just breathtaking. He has surrended to the calmness of the swaddle and is intrigued with me and I am smitten with him; if not just for a mere moment with this baby, with your baby, and if you could see my face, I love what I do and it shows. {Mommy & Me} Workshop- January 2012

What a great day in January to have a workshop; the skies were blue, the sun was shinning and four moms with kiddos where eager to learn more about taking candid portraits of their kids in action. The two hours flew by but we covered lots of information from understanding light, setting the portrait scene, your camera and more.

And we learned a lot about light and how our camera and equipment see the light but nothing shows it better than this image. All the settings were the same, except we changed the aperture and look how much creamier the image shot at 1.2 looks than the image shot at 5.6. Thanks Sara for being the model for this demonstration. Can you see the difference in the amount of background blur or bokeh between the different images? You will have to come to class to learn for yourself.

And then there was cupcakes. Cupcakes with custom designed camera toppers by the fabulous Laura of Cupcakes A Go Go from the far west side of Madison. I got the inspiration from Pinterest and sent Laura the link and there you have it. Future participants will also be able to indulge in these custom cupcakes so don’t fret, there will be more, as long as you have reserved your spot.

 We even got to venture outside to take about light since the temps were warmer than normal for January. Isn’t this a good looking group of momtographers? The kids enjoyed the break and the fresh air and each mom got to shot a few shots to show their little ones in optimal lighting conditions. Stay tuned for next months workshop post, I know the cupcakes images are enough to make your mouth water but you will have to wait to see what we come up with next. Did someone say Cupcakes?

Anyone who know me, knows that I love anything that starts with a “C” and ends with a “ake”. And when a client posted some personal pictures on facebook of a her daughters smash cake from Cupcakes A Go Go, I just had to venture to the west side of Madison to check out the new retail location. And can I say, the store is eye candy itself but the cupcakes and cake pops were why I stopped and will continue to go back. I picked up a dozen for our trip to Nebraska for a photography workshop and thought I needed to document how beautiful these cupcakes an cake pops were. So enjoy.

And for all those who enjoy the finer details, feast your eyes on the beautiful swirls of frosting and the display of each flavor just makes you want to try every flavor. My weekly favorite is the smores cupcake, just a few seconds in the microwave and it brings back fall memories of camping.

And I the piece to resistance was the smash cake, although not what I typically use for a smash session, it was just too delicate and beautiful to smash so I took some shots of the detail before we had fun during the session. And we all enjoyed a little of this cake after the smash session was over.

On a side note,in addition to being thankful for great clients and the support to provide custom photograph to so many families, I wanted to write of a few more things I am thankful for.

First and foremost, my family. I do what I do, for them, to be with them, to love them and support them and in return, for love and support back. Isn’t this what makes life worth living? To love and be loved.

Two others things I am most thankful of are; time off and my camera. I know this sounds pretty cheesy that I am thankful for my camera, but I am grateful that I have the opportunity to see and document my life with my camera, and time off allows me to participate in life from this artistic form. A picture can send me right back to a moment in time where I can feel the love, the joy, the memory of ones lost, the size of my little guys tiny fingers and toes as a newborn, the first birthday smash cake or first waterpark trip, milestone session, the first tooth. The list goes on and on. So I am thankful for not only being able to capture and document these {moments} with my family but with yours.

Cyber Monday Ultimate Portrait Sessions may be used beginning January 1, 2012 and must be redeemed by June 1, 2012.  $100 print credit must be redeemed at your
in-studio ordering appointment approximatley two weeks after your session.  Portrait session contract with full terms will be required to book your session. Portrait Sessions are non transferrable.
